Welcome to Little Oaks - Hartpury

Little Oaks has been under the management of Gwyneth Keen since 2002. Since then it has achieved four Ofsted ‘outstanding’ ratings and is set in the beautiful rural village of Hartpury. It sits within a purpose build Surestart building and the site of Hartpury Primary school and maintains strong links with both the school, the college and surrounding villages.

Internally it boasts two beautiful, large airy rooms and a large circular intervention room. Outside landscaped grounds host a wildlife garden, large stage (for the very popular summer productions) music shed (complete with piano/cello etc) purpose build sand and water play areas, a caravan, covered area with small world, den building and digging area.

A large construction and mud kitchen and gardening is also available. The setting actively encourages children to use open ended resources to create with, crates, pipes, planks etc are the toys we use. We also have chickens, a bearded dragon, Axolotls and some fish. Children make full use of the rural backdrop and cook daily from self-grown vegetables, collecting eggs from chickens and selling produce as part of our sustainability programme.

Central to the settings ethos is story making which permeates throughout. Children create elaborate stories using props, photographs, stages, story stones, mini me bricks and huge imaginations. The role play encourages an extension of this as scarves, bags, bracelets, artifacts and curious items provoke and spike their imagination.
